Our Mission Statement

Troop 291 prepares boys to become ethical young men by teaching and applying the Boy Scout Law which is “A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”

We exist to serve boys by instilling values, preparing them to make ethical choices over their lifetime and enabling them to achieve their full potential.   Scouting is a game with a purpose. The goal is to have fun while learning new skills. We accomplish this by working toward three aims – Participating Citizenship; Moral Strength and Character; and Development of Physical, Mental and Emotional Fitness.

Troop 291 in a snapshot:

    • We are a boy led troop!  This means that boys make decisions together, help each other, teach each other, and take initiative.  It does not mean a lack of adult supervision.

    • The troop was chartered in November 1965 and is the oldest continuously registered troop with the same original chartered organization in Plano.

    • The troop participates in a monthly camping program during the school year (except December).   Themes of campouts include Astronomy, Rockets, Canoeing, Rock Climbing, Caving, Shooting Sports, Family Campout, and Water Sports.

    • The troop provides Merit Badge classes and opportunities for leadership.

    • Troop 291 has produced 130+ Eagle Scouts since 1970.

    • The troop participates in the BSA High Adventure Camps: Philmont, Sea-Base, and Northern-Tier.  Soon will include The Summit too!
